In The Beginning…

Okay, this is where I’ll blog about my second Audio Project for my 3rd year in Audio Production.

It’s going to be a fairly experimental project based around horror, where I’ll be creating 5 or 6 soundscapes to accompany imagery. The imagery will range from typically strange or disturbing images to ordinary photographs that I feel I can apply a strange or distorted feel to completely change how an audience perceives it. I have named my project ‘Horrific Silence’ as I will be exploring the feelings of fear and dread through my soundscapes – filling the silence with sounds that either convey those feelings or are designed to exploit them.

At the moment I am in the process of pinpointing exactly how my project will be applied, and I am stuck between a mixed medium gallery installation or for use in a theme park or exhibition (such as Alton Towers or The London Dungeon). I will spend the remainder of this week investigating and contacting galleries and exhibitions to see how fitting and plausible my idea would be for each. I am, however, leaning more towards an installation in a theme park ride or haunted house/ghost train as these are places people go to be scared and is easier to apply.

After this I will spend a week gathering potential imagery and looking further into similar works and horror composers that are either well known for their works or that interest and influence me directly.

I’m looking forward to this!
